When I moved to India, I realised that there were so many people who were doing their bit to improve the lives of those less priviledged than us.  I used to do my bit till now by donating to charities, which too is important since everyone needs funds to do their good work.  However, here I see people I know that do more than just donate funds.  They give their time, and are making such a huge difference in the lives of those less fortunate than us.

I too wanted to do something with my free time…help someone in need….make a difference, maybe even for one person.  But I found it difficult to find what types of NGO’s exist, where they are located and in what way could I help them.

Not just that….I also had so many old clothes, toys, books and household stuff that I didn’t need any more.  I gave a lot to my maids, but I still had so much more.  I didn’t know where to give it to…some place where it would be put to good use….where it could be used by the needy…..but where?

I will be writing about such places…that can use your help…..either in terms of funds, time, or donations in kind.  If you know of any such places, please leave a comment or email me. Thanks.

  1. Dear friends,

We are planning a car-boot sale in February to raise funds for EKansh.A small % of what you make by selling stuff that is in good condition and that you don’t need will go into our kitty.

All of us have kiddie books, toys, some furniture, some household FX, clothes, etc in mint condition and not being utelised.

Let us know if you’re interested in participating. You could post your messages right here if you prefer or write to info@ekansh.org

    Best regards,

    Anita Iyer

This has list of NGO’s all around India, hope it might be useful. Weekends in Pashan, Pune mountain, I have seen people watering and planting new plants on the mountain.
